By this time, just about anyone who watches TV hates commercials and it’s hard not to, with their generic taglines and annoyingly catchy music. But, every once in a while, we get to see a commercial for which we really don’t mind pausing the game or movie. These five picks have caused quite a stir in the world of advertising, so much so that they’ve eventually been banned from the small screen. Don’t worry though – they’ve been uploaded to video sharing websites and some of them have even gone viral, proving once again that sex sells. For your viewing pleasure, these are our top 5 sexiest banned commercials on TV.
5. “Christmas”, by Victoria’s Secret
You can’t have a Victoria’s Secret ad without showing world famous supermodels in revealing lingerie, but this particular Christmas spot got banned for giving a bit too many sexual innuendos for a family holiday. The ad, which aired eight years ago, featured now veteran supermodels Adriana Lima, Giselle Bundchen and Alessandra Ambrosio showing off their luscious curves and purring seductive words to a piano version of Carol of the Bells. And while viewers were definitely seduced by them, the FCC decided that a scrip containing “bring me to my knees” and “excite me, delight me” were just not right for the Christmas dinner.
4. “Secret Obsession”, by Calvin Klein
Eva Mendez is not the first familiar face seen in Calvin Klein ads, but it’s definitely one of the hottest babes to ever promote their fragrances. The one for Secret Obsession is only 30 seconds long and shows several revealing erotic shots of the Latina actress, which is why it got banned from airing on daytime TV. The best part of the porn-like, black and white clip? Definitely the brief nipple shot at 0:14.
3. “Beyoncé Heat”
Beyoncé is one of the hottest celebs out there, and this half commercial, half soft-porn TV spot shows her in all her glory. The ad is for her very own fragrance “Heat” and shows Beyoncé seductively rubbing herself against the wall while teasing the viewers with her revealing cleavage. The purpose, of course, was to symbolize the intoxicating and seductive nature of her scent. The spot was banned due to erotic imagery, but the fragrance still reported record sales.
2. “Veggie Love”, by PETA
There’s nothing quite like gorgeous supermodels simulating sex with vegetables to convince the audience to go vegan, right? This controversial spot was never made it to the Super Bowl, but it went viral and gave PETA yet another medal for using erotic shots to draw attention to animal cruelty. We’re not sure it makes a good argument, but it’s definitely worth a replay.
And the winner is…
1. Carl’s Jr. with Kate Upton
This insanely viral ad for Carl’s Junior Southwest Patty Melt gathers all American guilty pleasures: fast food, an outdoors cinema, a period car and lovely Kate Upton in a revealing pin-up outfit. It was just one of the many controversial Super Bowl ads banned for their sexuality, but it was definitely effective and arousing.
